Here, our reporter Dean, who is a great friend and volunteer at Lucky Glider Rescue & Sanctuary, interviews Ashley who has adopted a total of 6 wonderful sugar gliders from LGRS. Ashely and her husband Steve lived in Las Vegas and recently moved to St. Louis. They are the couple who participated in the "Suggie Railroad" to save Makudo & Pete last year from New Mexico. This video provides a backdrop for some of the most common questions people ask about owning sugar gliders.
Voicing my opinion isn't a problem for me. But being very blunt about it seems to rub some people the wrong way. I am still learning to be more tactful but it is not one of my strong points. I am working on becoming more tactful I promise you that. If you truly are a sincere person and your voice speaks louder then your actions. Then perhaps you just might have the talent to really help save some animals not just Sugar Gliders. Ok TRUES I am done too for now take care.

Why don't you Sweetness7969 use your freedom of speech and make the law change to read no selling of any animal required by the USDA to be licensed in order to sell, in any way shape or form except on the physical property, in person and not online, where the USDA License is issued. Exception to that rule would be Public not Private Zoos. This would stop so much of the impulse buys out here that are happening every day. Mills are more of a problem when they travel like Gypsy's and impulse sell.

And for me to think that there is a Vet (Yes I am talking about Dr. Burst) that pushes/markets Pocket Pets Organization and their products? What kind of a Vet supports an organization who's reputation is like Pocket Pets? I wish they could be required to only sell them on the property registered with the USDA that the USDA then has a legal right due to the license, to surprise inspect them and not online and not anywhere else but the physically licensed facilities/property listed on the license.

I love freedom of speech that is why I suggested that YOU PRACTICE WHAT YOU ARE PREACHING. Actions SPEAK LOUDER THEN WORDS. I may not like what you have to say but they are ONLY WORDS. You may not like what I have to say either. But my actions and the actions of 501c3 Organizations such as LGRS speak for themselves. Just like the way Glider Mills operate, their actions not only speak for themselves, they make innocent Sugar Gliders suffer and die horrible deaths every single day.

@rcems629 My actions are to voice my opinions. Its called freedom of speech. If you don't like it move to another country. So here is an opinion, you are an ass and no one was talking to you. Try being a civilized conversationalist like the person running LuckyGliderRescue. Now I'm done with this conversation so if you reply rcems629 you will be ultimately talking to yourself. K bye.

You can now take and use your own personal advice and get to work at it. Do not come here and badger us about it. It is easy to make suggestions but actions speak louder then words. Our actions are in what we do to help Sugar Gliders every day. What are yours?

@LuckyGliderRescue That is true that some ignorant people do think they can just let and animal go free. I've seen domesticted exotic birds that have been let go. Its sad. Don't get me wrong I hate that federally funded shelters have to put down animals if they don't get adopted. But I can also see the necessary evil in having to.

Thank you for your comments. Sometimes the most humane thing to do is euthanize if the quality of life of the animal is unbearable, or as you say, there is no room for them to be cared for in a rescue. We have been fortunate in our little part of the world to either take in animals to our rescue or help owners find new homes if we are at capacity. Gliders would die outside in the extreme temperatures of our desert, so "letting them go" is a sad alternative some people unfortunately practice.

@LuckyGliderRescue Don't forget that that is a problem on every contenent not just in your valley. The dog and cat issues have been around much longer than gliders so the problem is much greater in scale. And I'm sorry to say that as unfortunate as it is, if every shelter was no kill then this country would have nowhere for all the rescued animals to go. They would be living on the streets and over populating. And yes I love all animals. But sometimes you must do things you don't like.

@rcems629 Congrats to you for rescuing gliders and never selling one. Do you want a cookie?
You seem to have just as many opinions as everyone else on here. I just suggest that you people start promoting not BUYING a glider. If you stop buying them then their would be no reason for mills now would there. Rescuing is not buying. Promote adopting instead of buying. Just a thought. Why not write to your senator about glider mills. Or to PETA or Humane Society/ SPCA.
