I think you'll find that it was a Derren Joke, Anyone who has been too one of his shows or knows anything about his work, should know that he can on occasion have a dark sense of humour. It was deliberate, because the the girl was so superstitious in the first place. Derren was trying to prove that there is no such thing as superstition, in other words there is no solid evidence to support it.

Truth is that there is pattern in randomness -- it's called CHAOS.  Trick is to be able to just see it instead of trying to force it into something it's not. People really are control freaks. We don't do well generally with the idea of meaninglessness.

I can't believe so many people thought the lady at the end actually died, when a few seconds later they say it's a joke, that's why you watch the whole thing before commenting.
