There are two very good recordings of Strauß's Fledermaus with Wächter, on time from Munich witch Carlos Kleiber and one time from Vienna with Karl Böhm.

This brings back glorious memories . I saw Wachter in the '50s doing concert performances at the Royal Festival Hall, London, of both 'Don Giovanni' and 'Le Nozze di Figaro', conducted by Giulini just before those famous recordings were made. A stunning performance each time - and a Don Giovanni of manic energy, a version to rival Cesare Siepi's even though they are different.

Have yet to find a better version. From Terfel to Hampson to Mattei none are as good as Wächter at this aria

Biogiant22 non sto parlando a livello di recitazione e qualita' vocale,ma solo a livello di colore della voce,io preferisco sinceramente i bassi italiani come Siepi per questo ruolo.

Troppo chiaro? Wachter secondo me è il miglior Don Giovanni della storia. Lo dico perchè ho varie edizioni. L'arroganza, la strafottenza, il coraggio, la superbia di Don Giovanni: nessuno le rappresenta meglio del grande Eberhard.
