steve gadd is one of my favourites! great video.

That somewhat hokey piano intro almost deterred me, but that was a great drum solo. Super exposed. Gadd is the man. Luis Conte is also the man. And that was the best count off ever at 5:48: " Ahh...ahh...ah ah ah ah!"

This is living proof that chop-fest drummers aren't appreciated. Musicians don't like you, and non-musicians don't like you MOST of the time. Sometimes, adding a visual effect to your solos through speed and trickery is fun, but when it comes down to it, audiences are much more pleased when they can become intimate with the music.

Theres Gadd and then there everyone else.ENDO OF!

drum solo it's not about being fast, but more how you put your passionate on kit..

how many drummers have the confidence to start a solo at 1/2 time, transition, then take it home? Fully exposed at the beginning and nowhere to hide; thats got to be pressure!

@akitoytube Interesting that you would say this. Steve (who is a friend and a contemporary of mine as is Dennis, Vinnie, Steve, Dave, etc.) is known for his groove and how he interprets time. I think the simplicity of this solo makes it a wonderful solo. This is typical Gadd being Gadd and killin' it. His groove and his melodic statements are truly wonderful and I don't think any musician on this level rates their solos. Each solo is a musical journey composed at that moment to be enjoyed.
