This is an explanation of how to play the Stones' version of Love in Vain. I capoed at the third fret, but I'm not sure whether I'm tuned to the recording on Let it Bleed.

  • Awesome video! You've nailed Keith Richards version tab wise!!!

I'm trying it with standard tuning and without the Capo and it sounds decent.

    Thanks again

  • @sedindustries That's how Keith did the live versions back in the 69/72 period. Not sure what he's done since.

  • I was looking forward to learning from your video - got home and started and sure as heck you are not in standard tuning and I read some comments below where you mocked someone who told you the very same thing. Please don't even respond or argue with me- it's not standard tuning you are in. A shame because you have nailed it in whatever tuning . Peace.

  • @ESonic11 Do you know where the info box is on YouTube videos? Also, do you know the difference between standard tuning and standard pitch? I'm not arguing with you. Those are legit questions.

  • @boeyoengznova You mean, too much explanation FOR YOU. But this isn't your channel, it's mine. A lot of people ask me for detailed explanations. And I have no idea what "just for several barr" means.

  • @SEBB3RS If you don't understand the first 20 seconds of this video, you should probably turn off the computer and sit down with your guitar for a little while longer before trying to learn from YouTube demos.

  • Just a little tuning tip for people who are crap at it like me. If you have a smartphone, download the app DaTuner Pro and the pitch for privettrickers verion of 'Love In Vain' is around -40 to -45c below standard pitch.

I held my phone up to the laptop when privettricker plays that 1st D note and the app tells you exactly what note and pitch it is played at. I tuned every string down by the amount I mentioned above and it is spot on. I just wouldn't have got it otherwise

  • this is once again a superior lesson, i think every guitar has it's own special ring. im just happy i don't have to tune to open G. Im so bad at it i have to follow a lesson on it everytime i do it. i love learning this one, it's very painful, very pretty.

    keep on rocking!!

  • I've been living with this song for a couple days. I've been listening to the song for 20 years or so, but never tried playing it. Until now. Thanks!

  • Great lesson thanks for posting this, it was a great help.

  • Damn.. I never heard you sing this much!! That was awesome!! Thanks alot!

  • thank you because you show the cords !

  • huge help.. the little details add that professional touch...thanks a lot !!

  • @privettricker Probably so! ; )

There seems to be a little confusion here (in the comments) about Keith's live tuning verses possibly his studio tuning, Yours is FINE and I'm on it ; )

    Thanks

  • @sedindustries Well, if you're playing along with a singer, you'll probably end up moving the capo around to suit his/her voice...or removing the capo altogether, which Keith did to suit Mick's voice in concert.

  • @privettricker The "no capo" is just by choice for now. I'm relatively new and learning, standard tuning it is ;)
