people are retarded. you can't just add a rasp to your voice on the spot. Brody's voice sounds like that from years of screaming n smoking cigarettes. Just like Kurt Cobain. Kurt used to go out into the middle of a lake with a canoe and scream his ass off. Their voices are from strained vocal chords.
