Dozens gathered for today's "Don't Hate, Legislate" rally at Capital Square despite the rain. Senator Adam Ebbin and Delegate Donald McEachin spoke out against Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Governor Bob McDonnell's actions since taking office.
At the rally, Robyn Deane her story about coming out as transgendered in the McDonnell family.
State Delegate Adam Ebbin said Cuccinelli failed to cite a statue when he advised Virginia's public colleges and universities that they couldn't include sexual orientation in their non-discrimination policies. He referenced section 23.9.2.3 of the Virginia Code, which empowers public universities to establish rules and regulations for the conduct of students while attending the institution as well as the employment of professors, teachers, instructors, and all employees of that institution.
"Ken Cuccinelli is an embarrassment to our great State. We have a proud heritage within the great books of history," Ebbin said. "Not of embarrassing lines on the Daily Show."
