One of songwriters Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell's first big hits involved taking Bach's "Minuet in G" and turning it into "A Lover's Concerto" for The Toys in 1965. This songwriting duo also would pen several hits for Frankie Valli & Four Seasons including "Dawn", "Opus 17", and "Let's Hang On". Their careers would continue into the disco era with songs like "Swearin' to God" for Valli and this number, "Native New Yorker", a Top 40 hit for Odyssey in December of 1977.

  • i wish music artist today still had that creativity and feel to make a variety of music that hit the soul in a positive way instead of making people feel gangster and that "dont f with me attitude."

  • @phanthomlordz I couldn't agree with you more. Although many people disliked the "disco era", I'm not sure it was the "music" they didn't like. This song in particular stands out as one of the best of that time combining elements of big band with soul and rhythm and blues.

  • Absolutely loved this song, my then wife and I danced well to this song

  • Those were the days or should I say my days, wish I could turn back time

  • When you think 'DISCO', you have to think of this song.

  • Movin & Grovin & Movin & Movin - so uplifting YES

  • @tiner27 When disco appeared and became popular in the mid 70's it symbolized that 60's culture - which extended well into the early 70's - was finally over. (and just in time for me becoming an adult). Sloppy clothes and hair, hippies (whatever they ever were), acid rock, protests, "anti-establishment" ideology were replaced by a sense of enjoying life with style and fun (much more civilized, and, at the time, fresh and interesting, especially if you were young!).

  • best version on the net, well done

  • Music genres are doors that open up a whole new world for those diving into the movement during their teenage years. Disco certainly did this for me as for many of the guys and gals admiring this melodic track. This is as good as it gets with pitch slides, orchestation and the very best of lyrics... Up Harlem down on Broaday!

  • Were their a couple Odysseys during this era? I know there was one from California making disco music

  • I don't care what anyone says, the "disco era" was one of THE most enjoyable and exciting "dancing" eras of MY LIFE. I've always loved to dance but the disco music of the 1970s (I was born in 1960 so you can figure the math out) was probably the most fun I've ever had dancing and singing. "Native New Yorker" was one of the most cool songs to ever dance to. Classic disco from the 1970s: I'd give anything to get those days back simply because, I suppose, it was my "nostalgia!"
