Our Wii console was having problems reading the game discs. Didn't like what I found out about my fix options, so made my own cleaner which worked. This does not fix the early read errors for SSBB, it works for discs in good condition which suddenly start having read problems.

  • Hey in your video you said your Wii was 2yrs old and Nintendo fixed it, free. Was your Wii still under warranty? or do they have a special circumstance for drive issues? i'm pretty sure my drive is my issue, as cleaning the lens has not worked.

  • @mraziktiffany I added some comments towards then end of the video. Go online to Nintendo's site and follow the repair steps, and indicate that it doesn't read SSBB disk. The drives seem to fail somewhere between 2-4 years of use.

  • Is there anything I can substitute? I can find cloth disc cleaners.

  • @spencer6SIXX I think some have commented on using cloth bandaids, regular bandaids, just make sure they don't rise up more than about 1/8" and that they are firmly attached to the disc.

  • Um.... heres my prob. I've got a softmodded wii, but thts not the prob. I've tried using an air compressor and a lot of dust came out, but wen i tried playing a disc it didnt work? So, later i bought a DVD/CD lens cleaner but it still didnt work. I guess i could send my wii in, but wat will happen? Will i get in trouble from my hax and things on it?

  • @MrHillbillydilly1 I think so. I have seen some good instructional vids on how to disassemble and replace the POS drive unit.

  • THANKS JEFF BRIDGES.

    you sound like jeff bridges.

    jeff bridges

    bridge.

  • Just want to chime in and say Thanks! I did this and it worked perfectly. I did not have any lens cleaner patches so I used a small piece of micro fiber towel. It worked perfectly. Thanks for the idea.

  • @Monkeyman688 Last comment, I meant could not would.

  • @Monkeyman688 Actually it Nintendo's fault. They knew they weren't prepared for dual layered disc, which is why there is only a hand full of he majority. The same thing happened with the PlayStation 2, once you put a gold disc in your console, blue PS disc or DVD silver would stop working. Not only that but depending on what type of disc you put in next affected the disc quality it could play. Like if you put in er DVD disc, then it would only play scratched blue disc after that

  • @livenbwell Well you could buy a new Wii, but the problem's you'll have with that is Nintendo not allowing your downloadable games onto a new console. They told me that they were working on a solution for that but I doubt it will be within the next update. I talked to them earlier 2011. maybe they'll allow it with the Wii-U, I know it sucks. All accept Metroid Other M works for me. I wouldn't try this because I went through tons of other consoles doing this method, failed all times.

  • TRUST ME THIS METHOD WORKS IT TOTALLY WORKED FOR ME THIS WORKS 100%

  • @takaKizne007 I have watched a lot of videos and read a lot of tutorials, and the clicking noise (from what i've read) suggests a drive issue.
