Not just that, it's called emissions. There are 3 basic was to classify a motor. Power, Fuel Economy, and Emissions. If one goes up the other 2 suffer. (I could write and essay on why this happens, but I wont) Emissions has been on the top of the Government's list since the mid 70's and it has taken us until the mid to late 2000's to be able to raise all 3.
not fucking car companies, fucking government (american) the american government doesnt want to have that great of fuel economy cause then they wont make as much money off of it as they are now. all the american government is about is fucking money, and its no wonder everybody hates america.
A turbo unit weighs less than an additional bank of 4 cylinders. Furthermore, it adds another level of control (manifold pressure) over the combustion process.

actually he did mention that ford has a fiesta that gets 88mpg. more then any other diesel that i know of

so there was a lot of talk about innovation however no talk about mpg's to expect. or when any of this tech will actually be out.
