Selling a screenplay requires having a good script to start with, an agent and ownership rights. Get a movie company to purchase a film script, but get it registered with the Writers Guild of America, with ideas from an independent filmmaker in this free video on the film industry.

  • This absolutely TRUE. In order to ever get anywhere in this industry you MUST have confidence in yourself, or you will be "eaten alive" as they say. You also must believe in your script, because if you don't, most likely no one else will.

Yes if you write screenplays...YOU ARE A SCREENWRITER. If you say I'm an aspiring writer, or aspiring actor, you'll spend the rest of your life "aspiring" and not "becoming" an actor. You are what you want to be, now, take the steps to make it happen!!

  • Is it worth joining the WGA even if you're not from America? Can you even join if your not from America?

  • but I dont have yet a script, I need someone who can work with me in this

  • Hi, I am a Filipino, I want to sell an Idea to a US production because this is about the US and Philippines during WW 1 & 2 and the Lost treasures like something with the Lost Symbol and Da Vince Code. Pirates of the Carribean and so on, Its a wide combination of twist.

  • good advice thanks

  • Definitely agree with the representative versus agent. I have a manager who is a writer/producer herself, but she has more tenacity than I do and gets my work through the door. Even though I was contacted first by a producer, she helped me sell my first screenplay for more money and dealt with the tedious money and credit issues I go crazy worrying about.

  • This new page sucks jesus. Can youtube simply stop screwing everything up.

  • @atavener I would think the UK would have their own WG. but if there is no restriction on country then the WGA is the way to go. However make no mistake that registering you script with the WGA is NOT copyrighting you script. It's recommended you do both, copyright and register it. I'd recommend copyrighting it first. for us in the us its the US Copyright office. Search the UK for the equiv.

  • I wonder if I do join some sort of equivalent for the UK whether they'll give the same protection thought because most people say join the WGA, it's the best sort of thing.

  • @atavener Never actually looked into that. I would think it would depend on where you plan to shoot and also where you live. Depending on what country you live in, they probably have the equivalent, and the WGA may be able to provide resources if they do not allow non-us registration.

Hope that helps. PM me if you have any other question.

  • It sounds like you understand the psychology of success very well! I'm a believer in the Law of Attraction, but I don't talk about it too much in YouTube territory. There are skeptics lurking everywhere, ready to dig their fangs into my neck!

I hope you sell some scripts!
