  • is 110 and 119 only in Shanghai?

would the same numbers be used, for example, in Hong Kong or Taiwan?

  • Hong Kong and Taiwan are different! But you can use 110 and 119 anywhere in China!

  • Why is 1 pronounced 'yao' and not 'yi?'

  • Thanks for dropping by! ;o)

Please to meet you! You can log onto my website and ask me any question in the section called "SCRAPBOOK"

Let me know if you are ever in Shanghai and I'll personally show yuo round!

  • thank you for this tutorial, i've been looking for the translation of the word "help!" because i often heard this in taiwan dramas, but it seems there's a missing syllable? i usually hear them say "jiu ming (ya?) or (yao?)" can someone clarify this for me. thanks.

  • jiu ming means "save my life" literally, it is used when someone is in danger!

Normally "help" in Chinese is: bang/ bang zhu, for example:

ni ke yi bang/ bang zhu wo ma? = Can you help me?

How do we say "asterisk key" and " "octothorpe" (number sign) in a telephone keypad?

    Duo xie le!

  • U can also use yi if u wish.

  • Hey Benny! This is a great video! Even though that I am chinese myself, I speak another dialect called Hokkien but wish I had learnt chinese younger. But your video makes my learning easier and fun! I am just wondering if you are able to help me practice my chinese through skype or msn? Anyway, keep up with the great work!

  • wow,this is great! ^___^

  • that's the rule of speaking numbers.

  • then again, I think I'm wrong on that.

Oh well, not like I haven't been wrong before.

    :)

  • My tutor told me its because in phone numbers the use yao because yi gets mistaken for something else. Can't remember what.
