go watch the episode before -"Maddie's turn to cry". He thought they had it all settled when she came to his place in the middle of the night to tell him "I hate you, David Addison!" and he replied "I hate you too, Maddie Hayes, I've always hated you!" He couldn't understand for the life of him why she was so angry at him now and that paralyzed him. She knew damn well he loved her.

@MsWhitedoe I think it's because he had a vision of who had a better emotional net to fall in, and not through it. It was a crossroaded quote where it was easy to choose, but too hard to take. And made him feel like a deer caught in headlights. He wanted to do what you said, but he didn't know how far it would take them as coworkers let alone a couple. That's my point of view about it.

I love the in-and-out of the elevator stuff. What i don't understand about this scene is Maddie FINALLY lays it on the line with David. She admits there's something between them and she asks David how he feels about her and what he's prepared to offer her. Why should she pick him over Sam? What i don't understand i why David says nothing. Why doesn't he tell Maddie he doesn't want her to marry Sam because he's in love with her? I always though David would have fought for Maddie here.
