Why is he drifting by just turning into 3'rd gear? I mean I understand why on the first drift turn, but he should really use second gear on the 2'nd and 3'rd drift turns, and 1'st gear on the big wide drift turn at the end.

Not good at all. Why don't you check out Daytona videos from Malaysian and Singaporean posted here? We use different gear changes also.
FYI, with cars race first lap 46.xx seconds easy, 1st place just after 2nd corner. Without cars time attack, 47.xx seconds easy.
