I worked with a heroin user in 1978, and he used to score from the same person as Sid [West London] and he said Sid was crazy, and had a fascination with cutting himself. Also , around that time, barbs and diconal were around more than heroin [or were more easily got] Heroin then was coming in on the back of the Iranian Revolution.

@xEdddie And sure, he definitely looked the part, nobody can ever take that away from him. But Sid is a myth at this stage, and it's nonsense. He is not an individual anyone should ever look up to, and it should be noted also that there's a lot of unpleasant misogyny out there re. Nancy Spungen. Her role in his so-called downfall has been greatly overstated - the guy was on a road to certain destruction long before she came on the scene.

The glass incident took place in the 100 Club during a set by the Damned and the other ugly pre-Pistols incidents have been confirmed by many - e.g. Mike Baess (who shared a squat with Sid) and Jah Wobble. There's also a stomach-churning story told by a guy in "Who Killed Nancy?" about an incident where Sid got a piece of rope and hung a cat until it finally stopped shitting/pissing itself and struggling for life. Disgusting behaviour. Unforgivable.

Speaking as a Sex Pistols fan since the 70's - you people are a sad bunch of fuckers and Sid would despise the lot of you. And this bullshit that's spewed about him being some sort of angel pre-Nancy is laughable. The drug abuse and violent/disturbed behaviour were there LONG before her. Also, (pre-Pistols) he robbed at LEAST one pensioner at knifepoint; strangled cats to death; roasted at least one guinea-pig alive and put a girl's eye out with a glass. FACT. WAKE THE FUCK UP.

I don't for one minute think he wanted to die but he seemed to have filled his time with us, doing exactly as he wanted to. He sure was a mixed up character but interesting. R>I>P Sid.
