Where all the rich uppity people live who think they are better than people who live in Brunswick.
-
Prior to the name San Simeon, Spaniards had called the island San Buena Ventura, the name of the island's first and most prominent mission, which was a late 16th or early 17th Century mission located, I believe, at the south end of the island on or near the site of the present day lighthouse. The later San Simeon mission was located mid-island on the site of present day ruins of Fort Frederica. I know, I know. Too Much Information.

Then 3 months later. That Mother's Day Tornado, May 11th: Came down my street and cause a lot of damage on Frederica Road. Glad that the tornado was off the ground when it got to my house or it would have been gone.
