Huns were called 'Xiongnu' or 'Hsiung-nu 'ferocious slaves,in Chinese.'Hu'was Hunnic self-designation.Some linguists pointed out that ancient categorical name of 'Hu' for nomads could be a fast-paced pronunciation of two characters of 'Xiongnu'.Some scholars believe Xiongnu was the same as ancient names like 'Xunyu' . According to Sima Qian, among the northern nomads would be 'Shanrong' (Mountain Rong) or Xunyu or Xianyun at times of Lord Yao and Lord Shun, Chunwei tribe at times of Xia Dynasty,
The Turks or Proto-Turks were a large group of nomadic tribes that dominated the northern steppes from the 6th to the 8th century. The Chinese words for the Turks (Tujue 突厥 [twetkjuet] or Tiele 鐵勒 [tjetlak]) are derived from the Turkish word "Türk" or "Türküt". The Turkish languages belong to the Altaic language family. The Turks were originally nomad tribes that migrated with their cattle from pasture to pasture along the rivers in the steppe area of modern Mongolia.
In 769 Marquis Shen of the Zhou enlisted the assistance of the Dog Rong in rebelling against the emperor You. The barbarians did not then withdraw but took Jiaohuo between the Jing and Wei Rivers and from there went marauding into central China, but were driven out. In 704 the Mountain Barbarians marauded through Yan, and in 660 BC attacked the Zhou emperor Xiang in Luo. He had discarded a barbarian queen. The barbarians put another on the throne
@desperan00 They are NOT Turks. Turks live in Turkey. Huns are not Turkic nor Turks. As for Bulgars, they have a Turkic element. This element is more dominant among Kazak, Uygur, Kirim. Ottoman and Selcuk were Turkic in language, but had a very minor genetic Central Asian input.
@desperan00 Atilla is not a Turkic name, Turkic languages have vowel-harmony, the name Atilla has not. By the way, Atilla doenst mean anything in Turkic languages. Have a nice day!
