Having a laser pointing at the tip of the bit is silly. Even if you're a little off in your jig, you can still start drilling the tip of the bit into the ball without consequence. You'd see you were off and just adjust the ball. A more useful setup would be to have a laser poining at where the side of the bit was going to hit the bridge and span lines. But that would be much more difficult to make.
