Cutting through the spin and the stagecraft, Nation correspondents on the scene at the DNC worked all week to find the stories behind the carefully-scripted speeches. On the eve of Barack Obama's historic speech, Nation correspondents Katha Pollitt, Patricia Williams, and Richard Kim talk about the real significance of the 2008 Democratic National Convention, looking at what history was really made.
"Drug war"? Non-violent, victimless marijuana use accounts for 50% of those imprisoned. Also, minorities make up the majority of those in jail (although whites commit more crimes - I think that includes white collar, etc.)And now that prisons are being run for profit as the government contracts out this civil service as well, they WANT TO KEEP the prisons full. For 1 thing, also, Afghanistan is growing MORE opium poppies since we've invaded it. Destroyed businesses are less profitable :-(

I believe many Americans are in agreement with you on this issue. Our two party political system is a total farce. It's a cartel like system that is working in tandem with the corporate entities that have had a vice-like grip on our society. Nothing has changed in the last 20 yrs of this country: No health care reform, A Drug War still being waged, A prison system for profit, No progressive solutions to our energy needs, etc. This is just tip of the iceberg and the list goes on and on.

rextrek, Personaly haveing nothing against Obama. For i see the RepublaDems as zero differances other then the muppet shows in elections. The owners, Handlers are all the same old real power, From the Corperate Elites(Bildeez)That when Denis proceeded with the impeachment of both Cheny/Bush. The lack of differances were seen with Pelosie.
With the corruption in the voteing process a moot point, And with the introduction of Electronic voteing machines with no abilitys for a recount.

Are you proud the dems won't impeach the most impeachable president in history with two stolen elections, 1.25 Iraqis dead, and 300,000 troops returning w/PTSD. And they continued to fund the war? You're proud of that? Keep hoping...thats all you got sister.

The two parties have become super parties that have alot of corporate strings attached, and won't allow third parties and indies to debate. That's why obam/McCain haven't discussed important issues in a real way. And both have the same military platform (one's longer than the other.) Check out Naomi Klein on Stimulator dott tv to hear her analysis. I used to be a Dem, I hope that your Hope is enough. But we still have to demand our rights. People in power are all the same, until the peeps takeit
