We featured the new potted Red Leaf Banana (Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii'). I had one of these in my garden last year in a large pot (not large enough) and was thrilled with the growth and overall effect. It grew to probably 8 ft in height with huge tropical red leaves. It was in full sun and did just fine and became a major focal point for the garden.

  • "An award winning horticulturalist, he has served on the boards of the Hardy Plant society of Oregon, the Portland Rose Society and the Pacific Northwest Clematis Society" I got this from p.4 of the Sunset Western Gardening book.

Love his dogs. I see the labrador's name is Cody but what is the name of the Australian Sheep Dog?

  • 1) Ensete aren't actually bananas.

    2) Ensete don't pup, so it was either a seedling, or a freak event.
