An amazing rescue of four dogs from the Gido Washa cave in Ethiopia in 2007. The Homeless Animals Protection Society made this possible, along with Dr. Anteneh Roba of The Amsale Gessesse Memorial Foundation and The Pet Palace, Clear Lake, USA. You can read more about the rescue and support HAPS & Amsale on the links below, any help is gratefully received and there are still thousands of stray dogs needing food and shelter in Ethiopia. This is the story of how a small group of caring people made a difference with determination and willpower to save lives.

  • Thanks so much lovesanimals20, Dieter & M3!!! If you look in my favourites there is now an update on the cave dogs that Leanne posted from The Pet Palace where the dogs are staying, it's really fantastic :)

    Hugs, Maria xx

  • Thank you all so much for your comments & support, message to fishmarc - I agree, compassion is a universal language with no boundary, anyone can be good at it and it's infectious! I'm really grateful for such amazing encouragement from everyone with this video and I hope for better days for the staff of HAPS, Ethiopia, they really deserve huge praise & I hope lots more people know about them now & help to spread the word :):)

  • Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments and for taking the time to view this film slide show. I hope the plight of Ethiopia's stray animals will be highlighted by the bravery of these wonderful rescuer's and in time I hope HAPS will be able to open their doors once more to the animals that need their shelter and care. We really appreciate your support & time, bless you!!!

    Maria & Paul xx

  • I am so f**kin' tired of people just abandoning animals like this, thinking they are toys that they can get rid of if they want. I am so glad these dog were saved.

  • crule people... >:(

  • Thumbs up if you agree the people how threw them in there are crule heartless b******!!!!

  • If the dogs seem like they're going to live a lot longer... at what age were they thrown in there? Puppies?! Heartless people... >:(

  • How crule some people can be!!! >:( Thumbs up if you think those people deserve to be thrown in a cave themselves!!!

  • this is extremely ironic.

the went all the way to ethiopia just to 4 dogs when there are thousands of people starving in ethiopia. they spent all that time and money on some dogs. dont get me wrong, i love dogs, my puppy is sitting right next to me right now =)

    but come on now.

people in ethiopia wanna come to america so bad, and u guys bring some dogs instead?

and do you really think yall couldnt find some neglected dogs in america? people treat dogs bad everywhere!-

  • Wow this is an amazing story. Heartbreaking for those dogs that did not survive, but at least some of them can still have a happy ending. :)

  • I cried.

  • God bless people like you have the courage, kindness and compassion to save these dogs.

  • YAY! yay! YAY! yay! Thank you!!
