Trust me, I've seen and hear many-an-accomplished pianist sit down at an organ, and they struggle as if it was their first time playing any keyboard instrument. It requires a completely different technique, touch, pedaling, and a vast knowledge of stops and tone colors. Pianists are a dime a dozen. A good organist is hard to come by.

Sergei Rachmaninov was in the process of writing a piece for Organ & Orchestra at the time of his death for his friend Charles Courboin who was appointed to the post at St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. It's too bad it never came to pass.

I love it!!!! The first time I've heard it was yesterday, at concert in Święta Lipka. This transcription is excellent, I think.

Many people feel that the organ renditioin of this piece take away from Rachmaninov's composition. Music is meant to be enjoyed and if this piece being played on the king of instruments is enjoyed by only a few then Rachmaninov has accomplished his goals in writing this composition. It is wonderful, Love it

Gottfried Federlein did this one -- back in 1923. G Schirmer published it.

is this from Thomas Murray's cd "The Transcriber's Art"?

Nope. The Transcribers Art (which includes the Rachmaninov piece) was recorded at Woolsey Hall/Yale University. This recording was taken from an old radio broadcast.
