why did you start with a light base? All other artists seems to start with a mid then go dark, then light. Different style?

Are you using Pastelmat?

thanks for the question i started of doing water color and as you know with water color you have to go light to dark so i just carried that process over to pastel.

plus it helps not to put to much dark down first because it can bleed or mix into your lighter areas but there are times when i put light over dark ..like highlights in hair

Wow! You did very good on that portrait Sir! I'm just beginning to learn doing pastel portrait right now. All I do is just charcoal portraits, but now I'm taking it to another level (pastel).
