I didn't know until I saw these many Youtube clips that Ida was even still concertizing or playing in public!! I'm so glad she is! You know, some people just stop playing in public after they hit a certain "older age" and it's really quite sad. I was so amazed when I saw the clip of her playing the Wieniawski #1, she still has it in her fingers and is playing it WELL at age 80+. My jaw dropped. She's definitely got the violinistic longevity gene!!

The violin looks so big because Ida is so small. Indeed, she is a remarkably short woman. That's why she always wears extremely high heels (which you can't see on this clip). I did a master class with her myself, her heels were so high she could not strech her knees. Ida Haendel is a very eccentric woman! Of course she is not at her hight any more, but she is brilliant!

"If you can't play at 77,just don t play..." Goodness that's very intolerant. There are moments here, and certainly in other clips, where that wonderful finger vibrato is still producing the magic sound Ida produced many years ago. All the musicality is still there. See how you get on when you're 77 and see if you want to stop playing when you cannot mechanically produce the efficiency you can now. A little respect for a violin legend please.

I agree with pochycary! Show some respect for Ida.. she's a wonderful person.. I consider her a very good friend and everyone in the world wish they could play like her..
