This is a video of me flying an R-22 helicopter with less than 3 hours experience spread over 15 years or so. I did two, half hour "trial introductory flights" in the late 80's and then another lesson in 2000. I had a little trouble picking up the basics of hovering so I practised on a Ryan Aerospace Helicopter Simulator. I took another lesson in around 2004. This is the video of that lesson. The instructor (with more than 20,000 hours of helicopter flying experience) said that he'd never seen anything like it. He said that he had taken commercial helicopter pilots for checkrides (after taking a year off) and that they couldn't "throw that R-22 around" like I could. I owe it all to developing the motor skills on a Ryan Aerospace Helicopter Simulator.
