  • hummm... border pipes played in french cornemuse style. I think it's not a real border chanter

  • You are correct in that what Jon makes and sells as border pipes are something of a hybrid. He started from the plans published by Cocks and Bryan for border pipes but incorporated aspects of French design to make them more flexible.

  • Those are bagpipes he made, right?

  • Yes

  • Fair enough. But then he's an Englishman playing an English tune on a set of English pipes which don't use Highland fingering. It's like criticising the lack of mangoes in Inuit cookery.

  • Leave the man alone! Can't you see he's doing his best?

  • I just plugged my Swaine reed into my Border Pipes from Piper's Choice in Canada, and while it is VERY susceptible to pressure, and does not allow for crisp throws, it is a very good alternative to the cane reeds that I have been using, especially for ease of play and playing along with instruments. • Great pipes and great playing!

  • @ionannas The two tunes are Biscuit Shuffle and Bottleneck, both by Cliff Stapleton :)

  • Good stuff! :)

    Ruiseart.

  • what tune is that around 240-3.27? cheers

  • @kaypiob Hey, no worries! We're all pretty laid back here! Best wishes.

  • @irateofwatford I hope I misread here, but I meant no disrespect. Apologies if I made it seem so.

  • @kaypiob Swayne and I have known each other for more years than I care to remember. He knows better than to be offended at my apparent lack of respect. "Actually quite good..!" I must bring this to his attention. He'll feel it's all been worthwhile after all this time.

  • He's actually quite good. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but that's OK to say you don' t like something. Far more condescending to say "he's doing his best" than to say you simply don't like the style.

    Good video, Ian! Much appreciated.
