  • @alphie10 Dropdowns on your knees have another downside, you're very vulnerable to strangles if they fail. I have a black belt since I was 16. You're already learning lots of variations but with combinations I mean stuff like what you see in this video: starting with one throw (or preparing with it) and moving onto the next.

The first ones I learned were ippon seoi nage to ko uchi gari/makikomi and de-ashi barai to o-soto-gari. Sasae tsurikomi ashi to o-uchi-gari is also a good one =)

  • @bla7091 yeah i dont like droping onto my knees doesnt feel right as well..as for combinations im sorta geting better at it for my green belt grading i have to do hane goshi, harai goshi, uchimata, okuri ashi barari, sasae tsurikomi ashi, hiza guruma and morote eri seoi,(and for newaza i have to do: juji gatame, waki gatame, ude gatame, hiza gatame...) then iv got my green belt :D im not very tall im 1.68m and weigh 66kg but im kinda likin uchimata so it wil add to my favourite tech. wat belt r u

  • @alphie10 Standing seoi nage (morote or ippon) isn't necessarily harder but certainly a lot better for your knees. You'll get a long way with 2 forward throws and 2 backwards. Some sweeping would definitely add a lot to your capabilities + combinations by the time you get to it. It's really a matter of finding the right moment and preparation, even provoking a movement can help. (pushing back often makes opponents push back too, pressing them down makes them want to stretch out)

  • @bla7091 seoi nage is one of my favourite throws i can do really well i dont like drop seoi i prefer using even harder skill to pull of the standing one like koga does i havent pulled it off in randori yet but ive come close ill keep trying im still orange/green at the end of the day so its all about experience and practising technique every session. Im starting to like uchimata too think those will be my 2 most favourite throws to do :P along with osoto gari and ouchi gari for throwing backwad

  • @alphie10 I adapted a few things to still make left and right throws without using one arm too much. Koga's videos helped (his seoi nage without a sleeve grip) and the rest is just creativity. Surgery isn't really into the picture when you can still make every movement, just not as good as I used to. Patients who typically go for surgery can not even lift their arm beyond 30 degrees and I'm not at that point

    Good luck in your competitions!

  • @bla7091 ouch bro get some surgery or something :P see im a special case im a lefty hahaha ;) xD im 17 currently orange belt..almost green belt soon. Im right handed in everything i do except judo(and mastubating ofc lmfaoo) i use left i just prefer turning into throws from left side and it feels right for me :P

  • @alphie10 Yeah, used to do loads of competitions under I dislocated my left shoulder (right handed thrower) so I was out for nearly 2 years! Struggling to get back now with the seniors... only 20 years old so there's hope left haha

    What about you?

  • @bla7091 yahhh well said :P r u a judoka?

  • @alphie10 really quite a strange situation, the moment he made his move it was a tai otoshi in a diagonal direction o.o Uke just turned so quickly I didn't even realise it! It resembles more of a tai otoshi anyway since he never swung his leg up. Then again, we're looking at competition judo where the throws are not all that clear and it doesn't even matter so much.

The beauty lies in the fact your opponent is working against you and still ends up on his back :)

  • @bla7091 he wasnt facing uke look @ 0:06 its tai otoshi. If it was osoto uke wuld fall directly backwards but he doesnt he falls foward plus osoto tori wuld be closer aiming for chest contact :)
