Speaker: Professor Barry Halliwell, Tan Chin Tuan Centennial Professor, Deputy President (Research and Technology), NUS
NUS is a hugely-complex organization. Founded as a teaching university, it is nevertheless moving rapidly up the world rankings of research-intensive universities. The reasons for this rapid improvement will be explored and the current NUS research strategies presented for discussion, followed by a critical assessment of what we need to do for the future and how we should assess progress, again for discussion. NUS should be responsive to the needs of Singapore, but also take a pro-active role in defining those needs and how to response to them.
