Lots of people want Mac OS, but not pay more than 600$ for a laptop. OS X on the ION platform with an N330 should be a decent cheap solution. I think something like Apple certified MB's from ASUS would be great. I know several people that would be using Mac OS instead of Windows now, if this was reality.

Aaaah whats that high pitch chirping noise in the video? I hear this almost always on apple users videos. Is this the isight built into a notebook or computer or is it an external isight? It makes me insane.
Anyway aside from that, this is a very good video mrbit10. Good job

Steve Job's has control issues.
I think is starts in the beginning of Apple, Apple has always thought they had to make money of hardware sales & their business is based on making pretty computers with their os. Which is not bad if you can make money & your happy with being at the bottom 6-8% in the computer world, but will never be like Microsoft with their current mindset.

Good video, I wonder if Apple wants to be # 1 or if they are just happy controlling 6-8% of the pc market & making tons of money. If its the first I agree with you they should release osx to the OEM's & the rest of us that build pc's. If the latter Apple should not release osx because it would hurt there hardware sales & they would eventually become a software company, which is not bad, but they are currently geared to make money on hardware.

I was stating hat more money is made on the software, there are very small profit margins in hardware as by nature it's expensive. But Software is different, once it's developed the manufacturing costs are peanuts. MS changes it's pricing all the time, every time Dell buy Windows in bulk it's more then likely at a different price, your talking the extreme. It's not up to MS what goes on a computer, it's up to the market, if OS appeared on a Dell it would be all over the news and an instant hit.

Why does Apple control the hardware and OS?
I have one good reason myself, but I want to hear from other people.
One flaw with the certified hardware program is that OS X could only run on new hardware and not existing hardware and as you said in a previous video, OS X is getting crushed in the server market because people wont spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace their existing hardware. This would mean that OS X could only expand at the rate that people purchase new hardware and not at the rate of software.

as with most systems today going to 64 bit, that is a must. But what you are forgetting is the speed of expansion is at the rate of many OEMs and custom hardware vs just the one OEM that is Apple, thus at the speed of software as it is demanded which is inherently linked to application use. Enterprise is a very different market, you do not need HW verification in those markets just set it free for that demographic.

i do not think it will go free this year. i think apple will be forced by law to do so. that is the way it is looking so likely in Europe first and then maybe the U.S., maybe but not likely this year.

If Apple released a non EFI version of its OS, it would be the most pirated not the most bought OS in history. This is what I think. Having it EFI-locked saves me from calling up Mr. Raji Patel in India to unlock it. No offense, but I have a terrible time understanding them, and their attitude is always shitty.
