Ekaterina Gordeeva - Original Ribbon Performance 1999 SOI

By request, here is the original performance of Ekaterina Gordeeva skating with the Ribbon Dancer. This was inspired by her beautiful young daughter, Daria Grinkova, who was 7 at the time. I'm afraid I don't know the piece of music she is really using here.

she really knows how to use the ribbon, or else, the routine would be a mess

but she managed to control it, so the routine was gorgeous

are u asking who choreographed KATIA's program or SASHA's? ;)

katia may have had some input on the choreography, but it's sasha's interpretation/execution of it that makes me favor katia's original program more. the overall feeling i get with sasha's program is that the ribbon was just there to "prettify" the elements, and not really add depth or character to the program. with katia, the ribbon was so integral to the overall character of the program, not just a "prettifier".

not in the more popular "aria" footage of sasha's ribbon program, but in the connecticut ice spectacular footage where she got entangled with the ribbon, particularly at 2:18-2:38. this was a more messy rendition of that program. nice recovery by sasha though. ;)

This was lovely! I love Katia, shes so gorgeous! Really nice program, I love the part when she throws and catches the ribbon at 2:32.

But I must disagree with all you guys, Sashas program doesnt look messy at all! And she even does more difficulties with the ribbon. If you must compare, ask yourselves who choreographed Katias program, 'cause discredit Sashas one is discredit Katias choreography.

When does Sasha almost trip? I didn't notice.

sasha just did her usual tricks and the ribbon just looks like an accessory in her program. at some point, sasha almost even tripped with the ribbon. really messy and unnecessary. with katia's, you couldnt envision the program as a whole without the ribbon. katia even performed very difficult tricks with it without having it entangling or potentially tripping her.

i beg to differ. sasha's ribbon program completely looks messy compared to katia's. and katia integrated the ribbon so well into the program and did lots of very subtle but very difficult tricks with it. she also conveyed plenty of emotions with it that you havent seen her express before.
