Words by Jacques Brel
Music by Jacques Brel and Gérard Jouannest
Published 1967

Ron Lindeman AKA yinyangron on 12-string Ovation and vocals.

Jacques Brel was a Belgian singer/songwriter, a chansonnier!
He sang in French and in Flemish.
Some of his most famous songs were also translated in English like "Ne me quitte pas" wich in English was called "If you go away".
The original version starts with a piano and has an arrangement for an orchestra.
Unfortunately you have to do with just me and my 12-string guitar.

My personal thoughts on making music:
1) Music to me is by definition emotions. A song is an island filled with deep emotions and feelings and a song must be able to touch the listener in the heart and soul.
2) I don't believe in simply copying the orginal. Try to change a song into your own version of it. For instance in the way you play an instrument and/or sing or change tempo or add different musical arrangements, etc.
3)I don't mind playing covers of songs. In the classical music world almost everything consists of covers. The musicpieces of composers are often centuries old.In popular music it's no problem playing songs written and recorded by others.Just add what is specifically your own.
4) Music is always subject to people's personal taste. Your background, culture, the country you live in, your environment, etc, are factors that may influence your musical taste. But all humans have emotions and feelings. With music you can touch someone in the heart and soul and arouse emotions and feelings.
5) pure technical skills don't necessarily mean that a music piece or song is conceived as beautiful.
6) it are the listeners that will judge your songs and music. Not you as the musician or other people in the music business.

  • A lot of passion, Ron.

    5*****

  • Thanks Jacques, Brel was all about passion, wether he stood in front of an orchestra or just solo at the piano, he could catch the attention of the listener and fill his heart with the pasion of his songs. take care Ron

  • From the moment it came on, this song made me turn my head and listen closely. Really strong and deep...really wonderfully done Ron. =) My heart is beating like a drum.

  • Thanks Aleishar, I'm glad that it caught you as it did, Brel was and still is one of my favorite performers. unfortunately he died a relatively young man of cancer, some of his songs became famous after translated into English and singers like Frank Sinatra, Celine Dion and Sarah Brightman covered his songs. Like "If you go away". cheers Ron

  • bravo à vous même si je 'aime pas du tout cette version.

  • Awesome artist :).

    Thanks for this moment !

  • Pour moi, c'est une des plus belles reprises de Brel, sans aucun doute !!

J'ai aussi entendu la version anglaise de toi, Ron. Mais celle-ci est plus spéciale pour moi ! Merci, merci, merci !!

Great job mister Lindeman : )

  • Bravoooooo!!!!!!!

  • Jaques Brel is geweldig. Dit klinkt anders, maar alsnog mooi. Ga zo door!

  • "yinyangron" nice name!

you are very fine musician too~

  • Thanks Ben, Brel was a pianist and most of his melodies he wrote or co-wrote on a piano.

His lyrics were always or mostly about life itself. This song one can play and sing with passion. cheers Ron

  • Thanks Lai, I really appreciate your comments because I really like the way you interprete a song like Wind beneath my wings and create your own version with your electric guitar, I like the effect you used with that one. cheers Ron

  • Thanks Jesse, maybe you've never heard of Jacques Brel before. He wrote some nice and excellent songs. Some of them were translated into English and covered by singers like Frank Sinatra, Celine Dion and Sarah Brightman. A song like this you can sing and play with passion and force. if I would record this in a studio I would add an orchestral arrangement with the emphasis on the stringsection. cheers Ron

  • Thanks Tom, I'm glad you liked it. This song is one wich you can sing with passion and emotions and full force, cheers Ron

  • Merci bien mon ami, oui, mon accent est un peu come un Hollandais, je sais, and yes I really like the lyrics. Brel is one of my personal favorite performers. You could see he was one with his songs, the melody and the words, and he could drown the audience with his passion, bonjour à toi! cheers Ron

  • Thank you Jane, how is life in your part of the world? Wish you all the good things in life thanks for your stars, cheers Ron

  • Thanks, yes I try to really get into the soul of a song. I always imagine myself to become one with the lyrics and thus the underlying meaning of the lyrics, and then I try to find a balance between the instrumental and vocal melody. So both become one.cheers Ron

  • Thanks Dave, even if you can't understand the words, than surely the melody and the vocal melody will get to you. It's a song wich one can play and sing with total passion and surrender to one's emtions. cheers Ron

    Krachtig!

    5 grote sterren ;-))

  • A lovely song Ron!
