A short video explaining some of the action that took place at the Battle of Yorktown in 1781 in the place it happened. The Battle of Yorktown led directly to the Independence of the United States. The commentary was made on location so is a bit disjointed.
Please take a look at Video History Today http://www.videohistorytoday.com , the first web site to offer unique collections of re-usable original video clips designed for teachers and students.
The idea behind Video History Today is to give schools the raw material to make mini-documentaries and video essays on historical subjects.
Initial packages focus on World War I (Somme and Ieper areas), The Holocaust, the American Civil War and D-Day & Normandy 1944.
Great vid. Just a couple corrections, Yorktown was not the last battle of the Revolution, there were military actions after, even into 1783. The most significant was The Battle of Blue Licks in August 1782.
The other minor correction is that Washington did not take the surrender. Cornwallis refused to meet Washington or surrender to a colonial. He sent his subordinate to surrender to the French commander, who refused, and then he was forced to surrender to Washington's subordinate.
