A concept model of a coin sorter.

None of the four commonly used US coins are attracted to a magnet.
However, they are affected by the magnetic field hen they move through it.
How they are affected depends on the alloys they are made of.
The four coins can be sorted by such behavioral difference.

A concept model of a coin sorter was constructed, using ring magnets.
It simply works.

  • This is a great idea! Using eddy currents to sort the coins is impressive.

  • A very neat and unique sorter. Plenty of topics to be learned. I would love to build one with my kid, any place I can find instructions or at least an overview on how to build one? I get the principle behind it, but would appreciate at least a list of materials I need. Thanks
