On June 16, 2012 just over 50 peace witnesses from the Brethren in Christ, Mennonite, and Quaker historic peace churches gathered at Stouffville's "Freedom of the Town" military parade, a parade to that was billed as a celebration of the War of 1812. These three faith communities were early pioneers in what is now Whitchurch-Stouffville. During the War of 1812 they demonstrated their loyalty to their faith in Jesus' call to non-resistance and peace. This pursuit of peace continues to stand witness in this community and around the world. The peace witness at Freedom of the Town is but what small way to witness to the peace teachings of Jesus.
