UNITED STATES: 15.9 pct of GDP, $6,657 per capita
U.S. health care spending is expected to increase at similar levels for the next decade reaching $4.3 TRILLION in 2017, or 20 percent of GDP.1
Health care spending is 4.3 times the amount spent on national defense.3
The United States spends more on health care per capita than other industrialized nations but does not receive more services, according to a study published on Tuesday in the July/August issue of... Health Affairs, the Los Angeles Times reports.
81860Total per capita spent in U.S. dollars by 61 countries
61Number of countries
1342Average spent per capita
79826Total per capita spent in U.S. dollars by 61 countries

Another example of our high costs of care is clearly seen in the following illustration. Earlier this month Seaver-Davis, a family mediator and teacher, traveled halfway across the world from Greensboro to Bangalore, where Wockhardts surgeons removed the loose implants from a previous surgery in his knee and replaced them with fresh implants.
The surgery cost $11,000, a bargain-basement price that was a quarter of what hospitals in North Carolina were quoting. If more people knew about the quality of medical care here, American hospitals would go out of business, said Seaver-Davis.
Surgery Costs
11,000Surgery
1,290Airfare (Round trip 2 wks in advance, may vary)
2,380Hotel (2 weeks, 4-5 stars, 170 per night)
14,67033.3% of U.S. Hospital Costs or 1/3 less of cost in U.S.
What is being pushed at this time, in this country, is health coverage reform when it ought to be health care reform. This industry is profiting from our own fear and greed. And now, they are looking to continue the coverage based system by having the government overtime swallow up the private coverage based institutions so the other participants such as the big pharmacuticals can continue to charge what few individuals can afford to pay.
The biggest year of the boom was 1957, when 4.3 million boomers were born. Why it took over 10 years for so many post-World War II families to get going is a matter of speculation. For the 5-year period between 1956 and 1960, inclusive, 21.2 million boomers were born, nearly 1 1/2 times the number born between 1941 and 1945, and the largest for any 5-year period in the 20th century.
These boomers reach 65+ in 2017-2023
2017-2023
By continuing the coverage based system health care participants such as the big pharmacetucals can continue to charge exuberant prices for medication grandma needs. By merging the the coverage based system into the federal govenment over time the private insures can be eliminated while other participants within the health care industry continue to charge what individuals can not pay.
We have allowed this to happen. Due to our own desires that rage within us to get what we have not earned. We are a lotto nation. We gamble it all away for a chance at to save a few dollors even if it means raising the costs on eveyone else.
We do not have to let this industry and its particpants who grandma hostage through a coverage based solution.
America we must repent. We must confess to God our own greed and selfishness. We must accept God's justice system, Jesus Christ crucifed for our sin and the offences of others. We must beleive Jesus unto righteousness, unto partaking of His divine nature though the free gift of the Holy Spirit available to whosoever will. There is no other way to releat to the creator of all things but through His eternal Son who shed His blood for the sins of the whole world.
Let your faith in Him move you by His strength unto righteousness. Let us though His strength retain our power to do good not only over our wealth by not participating in heatlth coverage based solutions but also over the power of our choice regarding our heatlh care.
May God grant us wisdom and understanding that we may know Him.
May God bless us all in the name of His Son Jesus Christ who is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Is it possible for citizens of the United Kingdom to get any their National Health Services (NHS) health coverage benefits transferred to them if they move outside the UK? Can they get any reimbursement for medical fees incurred outside of the UK?

@theunderone1 that's funny "lie to make a profit" that is what our "capitalist" system encourages...lying to make a profit. I hear influential individuals over here rail against social services and at the very same time bash those who are in favor of things like a higher minimum wage. Anyone who works ought to receive enough wages individually to cover that which society deems necessary to survive. Anything less is an unjust wage. Many social services would not be needed if just wages were paid.

@soundendurance
If you don't pay your taxes here, you get a fine or they take it from your wage, you only get sent to prison when you lie about your tax tomake a profit.
The U.S is turning into a Communist system for the people and Capitalist for the rich. I am in no way Left wing or a hippy, but it seems that way.
Americans pay more tax than us, and receive far less, you should really ask yourself, when I pay taxes, what does it really go to? because you're certainly not benefiting from it.

@theunderone1 Obama says if you can pay and don't pay you will pay on your taxes at the end of the year. If you don't pay your taxes than what? The IRS is left in charge of the mandate and what do they do to people who "evade" their taxes? Over here, they put you in jail. Not a pretty picture....sounds like pay or die to me.

@soundendurance
The most I've ever heard of anyone paying is something like %3.4, but that was because she was an American living in Britain, so I think she had to pay more (as she had lowered taxes).
If the new American Healthcare is as much as %8, then I would oppose it. But did't Obama say that you didn't have to pay for it if you didn't use it? If you already have Healthcare then you don't pay taxes, like in Britain, if you pay for your own Healthcare, you get a tax reduction.
theunderone1 1 year ago
@theunderone1 I don't think Britons are paying just 1% it looks more like 8 to 10% according to the numbers I have seen. Could be wrong though, I have not verified sources.

@soundendurance
Well, if it is 8 to %12 percent of your wages they will take, that's a very different story.
I don't even know why they would take that much money, both my Mother and Father only pay less than %1 of their wage, (I'm a student so I don't pay anything at all).
The "Make me rich or die" idea would be impossible under the NHS, when you pay taxes, it goes straight to the NHS, like funding for Schools or the Police, it doesn't go into anyone's pocket.
theunderone1 1 year ago
@theunderone1 last heard touted here was more like 8 to 12% of wages. Not 1%. It's a "make me rich or die" situation. Pay the high costs or die. If you cannot afford healthcare you go without or go bankrupt. To prevent individuals from going bankrupt because they refuse to be extorted by overpriced services, they simply nationalize care making it illegal to go without thus extorting money from all.
Britons spent $2,992 per capita on health in 2007 while earning 22,202. Are these numbers wrong?

@soundendurance
What do you mean "make me rich or you MAY die"
When I pay taxes, it goes to the NHS, not to a private company.
I don't understand why the U.S doesn't just scrap the current Healthcare and have a National system, it costs YOU less, the Government less and it is far more effective.
The NHS costs less than %1 of your wages, most people don't even notice its cost.
Plus it is very easy to manage and you don't have to deal with paperwork that overcomplicate the system.
