Minutes after the announcement, a large group of protesters peeled off and marched down Broadway, chanting 'Whose streets? Our streets!' An army of cops on foot and motorcycles trailed them closely.

Among the well known faces showing up at the Occupy Wall Street protest were hip-hop stars Kanye West and Russell Simmons, who touched off a brief frenzy on Oct. 10.

Simmons said that as a member of the wealthy '1%,' he is willing to pay more taxes.

'I'm happy to pay a little more taxes if it means better education for our children,' he said. 'I don't pay enough taxes and I know it.'

Another $30,000 was collected by the fund-raising website Kickstarter, which enabled the group to produce 50,000 copies of a newspaper called The Occupied Wall Street Journal.

'[The donations] are coming from everywhere,' said Cooper Union student Victoria Sobel, 21, a core member of the finance committee managing the funds.

Filmmaker Michael Moore joins the Occupy Wall Street movement on Sept. 26.

The protest has gained such attention that it's attracted famous faces like Susan Sarandon. Sarandon stopped by Zuccoti Park on Sept. 27.

Felix Rivera-Pitre, a former dancer who lives at the YMCA in Jamaica, Queens, Rivera-Pitre said he was walking on William St. with other protesters when he 'shot the cop a look.'

'The cop just lunged at me full throttle and hit me on the left side of my face,' he told The Gothamist. 'It tore my earring out.'
