After months without being able to play Age of Empires 3, here's another showcase of the Napoleonic Era mod for Age of Empires III, which can be downloaded here: http://www.ne.elpea.net/forum/downloads.html

This time I play as the Swiss, against the Indians (CPU). The Swiss are acts pretty much like mobile army: They need few and inexpensive buildings, their followers not only gathers resources, but can also be used as skirmishers.

Instead of Town Centers, the Swiss have Supply Wagons: They spawn followers, provides food, wood and coin trickle, can research economic upgrades, train surgeons and also acts as mobile shipment dropoff points.

Tends provides housing and techs that increases follower build limit/experience trickle, and turn their Bivouacs (Barracks) into wagons, allowing the Swiss to move their forward bases elsewhere.

The Swiss rely mostly on melee infantry units, having a quite limited choice of ranged infantry (Followers, Crossbowmen) and cavalry (Hussars). They also get early access to Halberdiers, but late access to Musketeers.

In this match, I've showed a bit of the Wurttembergens, one of the native allies of NE: Once you ally with them you get can train Horse Grenadiers and a few Settler Wagons for a nice economical boost.

Since the Swiss cannot build walls and are limited to a 140 maximum population cap (160 after you send the New Cantons card), it's important to keep Followers and your army close to each other, so you can minimize the effects of enemy rushes and have your Followers provide additional firepower (They're pretty good versus enemy heavy infantry, such as Musketeers and Pikemen).

  • What's the triple alliance?

How can I get the outdated NE?

  • @DzekoCity10 WotTA is another mod for AoE3, it was initially focused on the War of the Triple Alliance (Between Brazil and it's allies Argentina and Uruguay against Paraguay), but it was later expanded to include other nations, such as Mexicans, Americans and Canadians, really cool, but it also requires both expansion packs to play.

The outdated NE is on the same download page as the NE 2.01 beta, is called "NE Vanilla".

  • Ok thank you so much. I only have dynasties and (of course) the original. I am deleting the mod now. Are there any other mods for AoE 3 that just require the original game?

  • @DzekoCity10 Well, I'm not the best person to answer this since I only played Napoleonic Era and The War of the Triple Alliance mods...

There is a NE version for the original AoE3, but it's largely outdated and apparently there's no chance that it will get updated.

    That's all that I know...

  • Thanks but do I have to have all 3 AoE 3 games?

  • @DzekoCity10 Yes, you need an original copy (Pirated copies won't make the mod work properly) of AoE3, The Warchiefs and The Asian Dynasties to run the game. Also, you cannot use No-CD cracks, otherwise it will mess things really bad.

  • Ok. I will try Vanilla and leave a comment if it works. Thank you for your help.

  • @DzekoCity10 Simply execute Age of Empires III The Asian Dynasties and the game will run the NE mod normally.

  • I installed the mod, but how do I open it.
