Check out "Network"; best satire ever committed to film, with great performances all around, including a legendary turn by the late Peter Finch, and one of the finest screenplays ever written as well. It's scary how much more that movie, from 30 years ago, mirrors our society even more today.
My Lumet Top 5 would be:
1. Dog Day Afternoon (my a.t.f)
2. 12 Angry Men
3. Serpico
4. Before The Devil Knows Your Dead
5. Network

I Love this Dog Day Afternoon. And Al should have won Osacar for that one.
About Al Pacinos later works i can say that for sure that Pacino still are great actor.
But how many films like Dog day Afternoon or films like that are made in Hollywood these days. Not many!
I think both De niro and Hoffman and Pacino take roles after the salary these days. and thats sadly but probably true.
But i cant blame theme.
I think that Pacinos 70 s are the best decade for any actor in the history
