S.T.A.L.K.E.R. stands for Scavenger, Trespasser, Adventurer, Loner, Killer, Explorer, Robber
-
If the zone really existed I'd run a prostitution business inside it. If you could die at any moment, wouldn't you like to see tits? Now imagine all those men in the zone...

@ForImperium the game is based on stalker film, yes its correct.
-
There was a Soviet film called Stalker, it follows a mystic zone that is irradiated. Stalkers guide people in, most disappear. It's an excellent film. It inspired the game along with the novel "Road Side Picnic".
-
The actual meaning of stalker comes from 'Stalking' the exclusion zone, essentially, people pay "stalkers" to be tour guides inside the exclusion zone... wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/Chernob
yl_stalking most likely gsc used this and made it into an acronym to serve their purposes, cool since they fit everything that the stalker characters are in the games ;P side note... there isnt a c consciousness project but there is a g consciousness project :O

OMG stalkers are (IN THIS GAME NOT FAKIN dictionary) the people who came to the zone to get artifacts so they get rich....
and also, why does everyone break their heads at what Stalker means. The actual dictionary translation matches to what is meant by STALKER in the game.
Stalker- Stalking is a perjorative term for the obsessive following, observing, or contacting of another person, or the obsessive attempt to engage in any of these activities. This includes following the person to certain places.

Probably because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is presented as an acronym, and has other connotations connected to it with literature and film that inspired the game in the first place.
