The legality and social stigma of cousins marrying varies by country and culture; Japan is more lenient than the US in that regard (FYI, the US is actually the only Western nation with bans on cousin marriage). Also, I believe she said "2nd" cousin before.
Furthermore; since they're some sort of clan, I imagine cousins marrying would be encouraged to keep the bloodline as "pure" as possible, much like it is in royal families.
