c.1560, lulley by, from M.E. lollai, lullay, from lullen (see lull). Second element perhaps from by-by "good-by."
this is the proper etymology, stop being daft, and really, just shut it right, and enjoy the snarking music see. What does it matter at all about race or politics, I hope aliens eat your racist small brains. Cheers then.

@bigtimepimpin666 Sorry, but that isn't true. You're right that Lilith was blamed for infant deaths, but that's not where the word lullaby comes from. The "lull" part is exactly what it sounds like - soothing sounds to lull a baby to sleep. It's from the related Middle English and Middle German words "lulla" and "lollen", which meant soothing noises or mumbles.

in my willage (xsenos, rize, blacksea region, turkiye) mothers' lullabies starts with "nani nani"... interesting!

@machetes love it!. Many sephardic houses are still waiting for their legitimate owners, nobody has usurped the property, the Spanish state recognizes the Sephardim as Spaniards, however does not recognize any other people as Spanish or as descendants, neither mexicans nor latinos nor anybody
-
@iSPaLiTo my last name is sephardic of spanish descent...

In english Lullaby is from "Lilith Bye". As in the demon Lilith. Means for Lilith to go away. She was blamed fro infant deaths. So there was a tradition of using amullets, spells, etc to protect babies from her. Does anyone know if there is a mystic origin to this?

@halityilmaz WTF!?!?!?!
Im neither agreeing nor disagreeing. But you are saying that Ataturk was Jewish. Could you point me in the direction of any information about this?? You are telling me Atatturk who rose as a poor soldier thanks to the Army was jewish?? I have a hard time believing this.
One reaosn I love Sephardic things is they have a more obvious arab and middle eastern influence. I speak more arabic than hebrew. I hope to learn arabic. I love it.
