Three members of a family drowned in a waterfall in Patalpani near Indore on Sunday. 17 July 2011
According to police, the family was visiting the weekend getaway for the first time for a picnic. Five members of the family were standing beneath the 300 feet high falls when they were caught unaware as water flow increased suddenly.
They got trapped in the middle of the swirling waters. One of them slipped into water, leading to the others' fall in the strong current.
As eyewitnesses raised an alarm, the nearby villagers rushed to the victims' rescue. Three hours later, two people were rescued while a body was recovered 8 km away.
The deceased whose body was fished out was identified as Chhavi (22). According to police, the other two people drowned were Chandrasekhar Rathi (51) and Modika Rathi (22). Search for their bodies was on.
How does water flow increase like that? It happend so fast as if a dam was releasing water.
