Newgrange and Dowth on wintersolstice 1996

The sunrise and set in the Boyne Valley has been recorded at Newgrange and Dowth on December 22nd, 1996. Alan Betson is the author of the still picture of the sun light inside the chamber; so the name I now have on the video is wrong.

I film quite a lot of sunrise/sets and indeed there are always people walking in the sunlight and casting shadows:-( To be honest sometimes I also do it.

I now don't do anything about it anymore (i even don't edit it out anymore), just accept the fact that people are present and witness the effects.

You can't interrupt the sunlight entering the chamber by blocking the doorway. The reason the alignment is so impressive at Newgrange is precisely because the sun enters through the roofbox. The doorway could be completely blocked, as long as no clouds are in the way the light from the sunrise will enter.

Seriously though...if you read into the myth (I think Michael Tsarion speaks of it in one of his lectures that you can watch samples of in YouTube) then you will find out that if someone stands and blocks the sunlight entering the tomb it brings a curse upon the Earth. Something I wouldn't personally want to do anyway. :D
