I watched the tutorials and I can warn you right now.

Search for the 1911-A1_REDUX.pdf - these are the blueprints for the 1911A1 and are very complete, with correct dimensions and 3D views to help you.

If you make it based on those instructions it will end up much cleaner. The materials are not any harder to obtain.
