A short chase of the loaded P&W Bow coal train from Ayer MA to Forge Village MA. The P&W runs their power through on these trains. At Ayer the train is on the MBTA/Pan Am Southern. Forge Village is on Pan Am's Stony Brook branch. P&W was running ABBBA today. Pretty cool!

  • Anybody know why they use so much power on this train...5 units seems a bit much..

  • Yup, its all true. Thats why I can't stand QZ, not just because of the concept of it, but because of the people who led to the creation of it in the first place. You don't like the trains running by your house? Then MOVE!! Nobody forced you into living by a railroad, if you choose the house and it just HAPPENED to be by active tracks, then suck it up and deal with it. Don't treat it like it was a surprise and pretend it was never there. Why do you think the price on the house was so good? :P

  • Yeah that is pretty bad. There are only 7 grade crossings on the NEC if I remember correctly and they are north of NHV where the trains can go faster than 100MPH. The tracks and trains were there long before the people or houses...

  • It seems that a lot of New Englanders aren't fans of the Nathans or the Leslie's these days. I know down home here in CT they have QZ crossings on the CORRIDOR of all places. The ONE place in America where you can't HEAR the trains half the time because they're so damn quiet until they're right on top of you.

  • Couldn't agree with ya more, there are some awful ones in Wilmington since the whole town is under a whistle ban...

  • Haha yea, except the ones at the crossings sound 10 times worse than the loco bells. Oh well, nothing's worse than those LOUD electric speakers they call bells on those HORRIBLE batches of RR crossings known as Quiet Zones...

  • Terrific work. Thanks.

  • Holy krapola! I spy ABBBA GE units! I love the P&W! Nice catch.

  • Yep, there are E-bells for crossings just like for locomotives.

  • Great vid. I wanted to go out and chase this train through Chelmsford yesterday but I was busy :/
