The media project was inspired by the work Upward Bound does to alleviate the educational inequalities that Tacoma students face. The concept of the project is to highlight the demographic shifts that have occurred in the city and their impact on public secondary education system. The theories that inform the content and aesthetic of the project include the intersection of class and race and the impact it has in creating re-segregation and institutional racism that is plaguing students of color in achieving their post-secondary degrees in Tacoma. The film is intended for students, parents of students, and all educational stakeholders of students.
