a meteor or a shooting star but i just noticed this last night for the first time after my 20th time watching the movie- theres another one in the boat shot at night as well just after this - exactly the same but the opposite direction which makes me think shooting stars more than meteor- UFO(technically yeah since its unidentified) but not in the alien sense

@salvadory I have Jaws: Unleashed, and it says in the description of the load screen (it gives you behind the scenes information) that the first one was a real meteor, and the second one was digitally added.

This is the 1st I watch Jaws (the movie is not finished yet on TV lol) but as soon as I saw this shooting star I came here on youtube to see it it was really a shooting star lol....

In the Jaws documentary he states that it was not a optical effect, and because of that scene he decided to start using the shooting star as his trade mark in later films. Examples Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Temple of Doom, And Raiders of the Lost Ark. Since Jaw was considered at the time a low budget film by a no one director before its release.
