Yes, all the examples you've just given don't involve rendering in 3d. Free games are a different matter all together.

The majority of the web runs on FREE software (as in GNU/Linux), Google, Facebook, Craigslist, Amazon, Yahoo, the list goes on... all are running on software that is licensed under the same FREE license (GPL) as Assault Cube.
You need to have a look at the book "After the Software Wars" by Keith Curtis -- this explains how FREE software is better. It's very enlightening. Google After the Software Wars lulu - and you will find a place where you can buy the book, or even download it for free.
