This is a documentary divided into seven parts on the life of Serge de Diaghilev, founder and guiding creative force of the famed Ballets Russes company.
I'm uploading the film as it used to be on You Tube but no longer seems so and I think a lot of people would like to have access to it again.
The talking head is Ballets Russes dancer, Tamara Geva.
hi Pearlaceous - yes i think so too - a curious creature whose obsessiveness probably helped make the very most of his talent.

@nickwallacesmith Nureyev was more "strange" and other-worldly.

hi again balletnut - i just woke up! yes, the 'l'apres midi'ballet - yes, it's much better - this one seems so insipid, i agree. i don't know who the faun or the maidens are or what company is involved - one of the problems with this doco is that things are not referenced - :< i can only say the faun was not me and the maidens not my sisters and it was not a home production!

hi balletnut - yes, in #3 it's fonteyn and nureyev with the royal ballet - the film is s grainy it's hard to tell!
sorry it's late at night (2.45am) and i'm not sure what you meant by 'I wish you'd used the Nureyev version because he was much better and more jerky. Who was this and who were the maidens?'
hope to hear back
best as always

Hi Nick,
Sorry, but I meant to ask in No. 3 - were the dancers in 'Sylphides' Fonteyn/Nureyev and were they with the R.B.?
In this, I wish you'd used the Nureyev version because he was much better and more jerky. Who was this and who were the maidens?

hi Bnesque - yes, i often wonder how the original looked in terms of movement - i suspect something like here - slow and neurasthenic, with all those odd positions of the feet and greek vase like presentation of the figure. i agree the interview are the best part of this doco. best

Though interviews are great but I wish the the movement in hte presentation of "L'Après-midi d'un Faune" would be a bit more catatonic.
