1970 World War 2 action from director Robert Aldrich starring Cliff Robertson, Michael Caine, Denholm Elliott, Ian Bannen and Harry Andrews as soldiers with a mission to destroy a Japanese radio transmitter. Heavy handed (the opening credits are still playing over picture 15 minutes into the movie. Some terrific acting from the all-star cast and a few good action scenes. Robertson plays an American Navy translator pleased with his behind the lines desk job who gets ordered by friend and commanding officer (Henry Fonda) to accompany an British patrol led by the courageous but somewhat incompetent Denholm Elliott. Nice turn by Ian Bannen ("Waking Ned Devine") as the crazed Pvt. Jock Thornton.
